The latest Glenmorangie Grant Vintage is a 23-year-old single malt whisky from 1998. It is the eighth edition of the Bond House No.1 Vintage Collection... The whisky dates from the time of the first cask experiments of Dr. Bill Lumsden. In 1998 he was appointed Director of Whisky Creation, having joined Glenmorangie Distillery a few years earlier as Distillery Manager. This was the birthyear of the casks for this new edition. They were newly made for Glenmorangie and heavily charred, explains Moet Hennessy's latest press release. Some of those virgin casks –Glenmorangie had never used virgin casks before - were filled with pre-matured whisky and others with Glenmorangie distillate.

In order to give the batch for the Glenmorangie Grand Vintage 1998 a wider range of aromas and deeper complexity, Lumsden added whisky from Oloroso sherry casks. Tasting notes for the Glenmorangie Grand Vintage 1998

Colour: amber

Nose: rich and mild, with some toffee, ripe fruits such as pears, plums, baked apples and a light oak note. Aromas of sweet vanilla, fragrant mint and a mildly warm, waxy note of fragrant incense follow. With a few drops of water, the classic Glenmorangie citrus notes emerge with lemon, tangerine, sweet tobacco, hints of lavender and some ginger in the background.

Palate: Spicy and almost exuberant on the palate, vibrant fruitiness bursts with notes of chocolate, smooth butterscotch and hints of sweet raisins and figs. Orange chocolate follows with some clove, ginger and aniseed.

Finish: A gentle, soothing finish with a hint of roasted almonds, leather and dates.
